One step forward, two steps back..
Nurses come flooding into the room as Syed and Matilda are shoved out and told to wait. "DADA!" Matilda yells, Not understanding the situation.
"It's okay Tilly, They just need to sort out daddy that's all." Christian says in a feeble attempt to soothe his daughter.
"What's wrong with him?!" Christian half yells.
"He's just fighting the intubation tube. It's good. He's waking up!" the nurse says as Christian smiles, slightly.
A few moments later and Christian gets the all clear to go back in with Matilda.
"Hey you.." Christian says as he holds on to Matilda's hand.
"Christian!" Syed says as he hugs him, and then hugs Matilda.
"Take it easy, You had a tear to your kidney. It was bad Sy'. They didn't expect you to recover as you were unconscious for so long." Christian explains as Syed looks on, terrified.
"What about Yasmin?" Syed asks. "Syed, It's bad, When we crashed, She hit her head on your seat. She had a prolonged seizure and they have put her in a coma. There's talk of her having brain damage." Christian says as he starts to sob.
"Oh my god..." Syed says as he comforts Christian.
"It was horrible. Honestly sy, I never want to relive that again."
"You won't have to. She's going to be okay." Syed croaks.
"Dada!" Matilda says as she lifts up her arms.
"Hello you!" Syed says as Christian lifts her up so she is on Syed's lap.
"I've missed you." Syed says as he kisses the top of her head.
"I wissed woo oo." Matilda says as she tries to hug Syed.
"Aren't you clever huh?" Syed says as he kisses the top her head.
"cever?" Matilda asks as she points at herself.
"Yes! Clever!" Christian says as he tickles Matilda.
"She's speaking so much now. I never realised it. She's going to be two in 3 months time. It's crazy." Syed says as he holds on to Matilda's hand.
"I know. She grew up so fast. Too fast. We never really go to take it in. With her it was like 'here's a baby! Enjoy!' and we never really took it in and absorbed her newborn-ness. I wish we had." Christian says as Syed nods.
"She'll always be our baby girl though. Our very special baby girl." Syed replies as he smiles at the two individuals.
