A waiting game
Its the following day and Christian has not moved from Yasmin's side all night. Early last night Matilda was discharged and thankfully didn't sustain any life changing injuries appart from a broken ribs and a couple of brusies and cuts . She was later taken home by Stacey and Martin. Syed however is still under observation due to the fact that he was unconscious for a long time.
Christian hates this. They were supposed to be picking up their two new adopted children today but after this, It's looks like that will have to be put off for the forseable. He was so looking forward to having their little girl named Hannah . They were also expecting a new-born baby which isn't due for another 2 months, Thankfully.
He sits by her bedside and hears the continuous beeps of her monitor. He can't bear to see her like this. Yasmin is only 8 and has been put through hell. She collapsed only 6 months ago and had to regain the use of her right leg . She was diagnosed as bipolar a year ago . She has had numerous doctors visits and needles poked at her but not once has she complained. She has been abandoned by her mother twice but never complained or asked why. She just knew that , that was how things were. She has grown up with 2 gay parents but never has she asked why . To them, She is a blessing . 8 years old but is currently stuck in intensive care , on a life machine helping her to breathe. To Christian its unfair. She is 8 and so clued up.
He hates whoever has done this. His family is in pain and he cant do anything about it. Why would you push a family with two young children down a ravine? is there a reason? he hates feeling like this. He wants his life back. He doesn't want to be sitting in a cold hospital chair praying that his daughter pulls through. He shouldn't have to!
Throughout the day, nurses come in and out and do tests on Yasmin. They determine that she needs to be in the coma for at least 6 weeks before they try to wake her.
To Christian , that's a terrifying thought. 6 weeks of her life that she'll never get back. 6 long weeks of hell. How is this fair?
As the hours drag on he knows that he'll have to go home at some point. He cant just sit at her bedside doing nothing .
He asks a nurse if she can keep an eye on Yasmin while he heads home.
Once he is back in Walford , he decides to check in on Matilda. He knocks on the door and Stacey opens it. "Christian? why aren't you at the hospital?! " She asks him and lets him in. He walks in and sees Martin with Matilda and Arthur.
"I needed to get out. Oh stace its so horrible!" He says bursting into floods of tears. She pulls him into a hug and rubs his back.
"I can't imagine what you are going through. Come on in and see Tilly. She'd like to see you." She tells him and he smiles .
"Tilly billy, look who's here!" Stacey says picking her up and handing her to Christian. He kisses her forehead and holds her hand.
"Listen daddy has something to tell you okay?" he says sitting her down beside him. Stacey and Martin also sit down beside him for moral support.
" You are going to be staying with Martin and Stacey permanently. At least until your sister is mobile again and that could take months if not years. I want you to be loved by people who can give you their full attention, Yasmin is just too ill currently. I'm so sorry Matilda. Never forget that we loved you. Never forget us." He says kissing her forehead once more and letting her run away after Arthur .
When he knows they are out of earshot he tells them . "I want you two to adopt Matilda. Stacey , you are amazing with her and she'd love to have you as her mummy. Martin you are great with Arthur and Bex so I know you'd adore her. I hate to do this but we wont be able to cope. Yasmin will proabably need some form of rehabilitation or therapy which will consume our time massively. So will you adopt her?" He asks through his tears. His heart is breaking. He shouldn't be having to do this. The sick person who pushed them has now broken his family.
Stacey and Martin exchange a look. " Of course we will. She'll be so loved and she'll know all about you two and Yasmin . You'll be able to visit her whenever you want." They say and he nods .
"I'll be round tomorrow with her stuff..." he says and walks out. Stacey and Martin exchange worried glances. Never have they seen their best friend in such a bad sate. They know its up to them to help him now.
So..... Christian has asked Stacey and Martin to adopt Matilda. Is this the right thing?
