Getting Better

It had been a tough and emotionally draining few days, but slowly Matilda had began to turn a corner.

It had been nearly a week since Matilda had been brought to the hospital, and although she was improving there was still some concern that her recovery had plateaued.

She was still requiring high amounts of Oxygen and IV fluids, and had been refusing all oral feeds.

And poor Yasmin had been staying with Syed's parents and had hardly seen her parents all week.

"Daddy!" Yasmin exclaimed as she ran into Christian's arms.

"Hey munchkin!" Christian smiled.

He had desperately needed a break from the hospital so Syed said he'd sit with Matilda while he went and saw Yasmin.

"Have you been a good girl for Nanny and Grandad?" Christain asked as Yasmin.

"She's been as good as gold." Masood said as he came into the room.

"I've been helping with Kamil!" Yasmin explained proudly.

"Have you? Well aren't you a good helper?" Christian said happily.

"Yasmin, Lunch!" Zainab called.

With that, Yasmin ran off to eat her lunch.

"How's tilly?" Masood asked.

"She's okay, much better than she was. The doctors are just concerned that she's plateaued slightly as she's still needing high amounts of oxygen and won't drink orally. Until she improves, we're sort of at a standstill really."

"Surely they could be doing more?" Masood questions.

"Not really. They are doing all they can. She's just so young and her body is struggling to catch back up to where she was." Christian says as a tear rolls down his cheek.

"Sorry. It's just been a rough few days." Christian said as Yasmin came running back in.

"Daddy, when is tilly coming home?" Yasmin asked.

"We don't know baby. She's still very poorly, and the doctors want to make sure she's completely better before they let her come home." Christian replied.

"I miss her." Yasmin said sadly.

"I know you do. And I know for a fact she's missing you too. You're the only one who can get her to drink all her bottles and the one that makes her giggle the best." Christian said as he held Yasmin tightly.

Back at the hospital

"Hey, how's she been?" Christian asked as he washed his hands with antibac before entering the room.

"Really, really good! She's had three ounces of fortified milk and hasn't brought it back up so that's good. They tried taking her off the oxygen and her levels dipped, however they've turned the pressure down massively and she's coping well." Syed said proudly.

"That's my girl!" Christian said proudly as Matilda grinned at him and kicked her legs.

"You'll be home before you know it Tilly." Syed said happily.
