when life turns on you
It had been several weeks since the fire and Matilda's birth and the family was now finally beginning to settle down into a routine.
"Good morning Matil--" Syed said as he stopped, his eyes widening.
"CHRISTIAN! CALL 999 IT's MATILDA!" Syed yelled pulling the little girl from her Moses basket.
It wasn't the drool stain or the vomit stain that had scared him, but the fact that Matilda was pale and listless.
"Sy? What on earth?" Christian said as he ran into the room.
The look on his partners face was one that he wasn't going to forget, not for a long, long time. It was like a wounded animal.
"I've called for an ambulance, they're on their way!" Christian said as he looked towards their daughter, who was whimpering.
He crouched down low, and began to sing softly to her.

"She likes that song... Keep singing." Syed said as Matilda's whines slowly began to cease.
"PARAMEDICS!" A voice yelled out a few moments later.
"Up here!" Syed called as Paramedics came running into their bedroom.
"This is Matilda Hafsa Masood, She's seven weeks old and vomited and has since become listless and lethargic. She also has a rash on her chest." Syed said as he gently placed Matilda on the bed, giving them full access to the little girl.
"Has she had any vaccinations recently?" One of the paramedics asked as another was checking Matilda's blood sugars.
"No, she's due to have her first lot next week." Syed replied as he and Christian watched on anxiously.
"Has anything like this happened before?" The paramedic asked.
"No, she's been perfectly healthy up until this point!" Syed said, snapping slightly.
"Given her age and her symptoms, it's paramount she is seen." The paramedic spoke.
The second paramedic lifted Matilda into his arms, the boys following just behind.
Thankfully, Syed's parents had Yasmin so they didn't have to take her with them.
